Micro-X is an award winning ASX listed X-ray technology company, who are pioneers of a global revolution in medical and security imaging products using cold cathode X-ray sources.
Flinders students, like David Bunting below, have had many opportunities to be part of innovative project developments with Micro-X, where they have been able to work closely with leading Scientists and Engineers, to further develop skills as part of their studies. These opportunities can be in the form of 20-week Work integrated learning (WIL) placements, summer internships or industry projects.
“I first started at Micro-X in December with the college of science and engineering summer research scholarships. The project I was supposed to be doing at flinders was cancelled and I ended up joining one of the engineering teams in developing a nanocomposite insulator for a new high-voltage generator they were developing. I then started the work placement and begun analysing a huge amount of data for one of their production processes where I started designing a kind of database and analysis system.”

“Micro-X considers people our most important asset. We are committed to contribute to the development of the next generation of scientists and engineers that will contribute to our culture of innovation and pushing the limits of technology. Providing opportunities for WIL placements is part of that commitment. In addition, we have been able to retain the majority of our placement students as full-time employees after they completed their degree.”

Ever since I was little, it was the STEM subjects that enticed me. It’s always easier to learn something that you are enjoying. I also always wanted to be a part of something new, and there’s plenty of innovation in STEM."
