An honours degree is a one-year specialisation related to your undergraduate study.
You can do an honours degree in one of two ways; once you’ve completed your bachelor degree, you can undertake an extra year of specialised study related to your degree, or you can undertake a four-year combined bachelor and honours degree, which you apply for via SATAC.
Studying honours will give you a valuable qualification with a grounding in research. Honours demonstrates your ability to undertake study at an advanced level, and will help you progress towards a higher degree by research.
If you’re not interested in further study, your honours qualification will help your job prospects in a competitive market.

Honours degrees are still classified as undergraduate.
If you are a domestic student you can continue to defer your Student Contribution through HECS-HELP, provided you meet the eligibility criteria. While eligible for Commonwealth support, Australian permanent residents and New Zealand citizens are not eligible to defer their student contribution amounts to HECS-HELP.
International students will need to pay their first semester's tuition fees prior to receiving their Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).
Entry into 1 year Honours is highly competitive. If you have demonstrated academic excellence (a Grade Point Average of 5.00 or above*) during your bachelor degree you are invited to apply for Honours.
Whether you’re invited to apply, or want to apply, you will need to contact the Honours coordinator in your discipline to discuss your project and arrange for supervision.
*Please note that some disciplines such as Psychology (Honours) require a higher GPA for admission.
