The aim of this project is to understand the perceptions and psychosocial impact of parental psychological abuse in youth sport and identify the thematic construction, maintenance, and perpetuation of psychological abuse in youth sport.
This project will specifically extend my current research agenda which investigates how the sociocultural climate of youth sporting clubs influence parental behaviour and involvement.
The proposed project will maximise the generation of context-specific knowledge for improving parental behaviour in youth sport that will enhance scholarly and policy understandings of youth sport and parenting.
This research will help to situate Australia at the forefront of practice in maximising youth sport participation through enhancing the quality of parental behaviour and reduce the risks of interpersonal abuse

This project investigates an online guided self-help intervention using Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT-GSH) in a stepped care model to help people recover from PTSD. The stepped-care approach can involve two stages of help, in which a person receiving therapy is matched to the level of therapy that most suits their current needs. This will be compared to a comparison group who will receive a standard Cognitive Processing Therapy.
Participants will be randomly allocated to receive either standard cognitive processing therapy or CPT-GSH for up to 12-18 sessions. Participants will also be asked to complete assessments about their life experiences, beliefs and symptoms before therapy, immediately after and 3-months following therapy.

Research shows that suicide remains highly stigmatised, with stigma identified as a significant barrier towards help seeking behaviour in at risk individuals. However, the role that stigma plays in the general population towards non-fatal suicide remains less understood.
The aim of this study is to explore stigma towards non-fatal suicide amongst the general population, and the role of professional help seeking behaviour. Specifically, this study will look at whether individuals who attempt suicide, but do not die by suicide, are stigmatised differently depending on the number of attempts made. It will also look at whether the general population stigmatise non-fatal suicide differently depending on an individuals history of seeking professional support.
As this survey discusses themes relating to suicide, individuals who believe this may cause them distress are discouraged from participating.

Central arterial stiffness (CAS) elevates risk of developing hypertension and subsequent cardiovascular disease (CVD). There is also evidence to suggest that metabolic syndrome (MetS) may exacerbate CAS. Alarmingly, MetS and CAS are independent risk factors of heart attack and stroke. Exercise-induced increase in cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) has long been established as an effective antidote against MetS and CAS, with its effect enhanced by higher exercise intensities.
A more feasible version of interval training known as reduced exertion high-intensity interval training (REHIT), with limited sprint durations and repetitions (2 x 20 s sprints), has received much attention due to its health benefits yet time-efficient nature.
Reports also show that BFR combined with lower exercise intensities can have favorable cardiometabolic adaptations. The aim of this study is to investigate the short- and long-term effects of REHIT compared to BFR moderate-intensity exercise on CAS, MetS severity, and other CVD risk factors in adults with MetS.

You are invited to participate in a research interview that aims to explore nursing and allied health professionals’ perceptions of why avoidable hospital readmissions for aspiration pneumonia and constipation occur and how their incidence can be reduced. These interviews will form part of a larger study designed to develop an intervention to reduce the occurrence of these readmissions.
You are eligible to participate if you are a nurse, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, dietician and/or speech pathologist currently working in a hospital in South Australia. You can be working as a clinician or in a managerial/leadership position. You can have a dual academic-clinical role.
The interview will take approximately 45 minutes (this will depend on how much information you want to share). Interviews can be held either at Flinders Medical Centre, Flinders University, over-the-phone or in a public place (library or café), whichever is convenient for you. Confidentiality will always be upheld, particularly when interviewing in public places. Interviews will be conducted by one of three researchers from the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Flinders University.
There are no foreseeable risks to participating in this project. Taking part is completely voluntary and you are under no obligation to participate. Your choice to participate or not will have no influence on your employment status or conditions.

Participate in a short (< 10 min) online survey to help create a generalisable tool for measuring 'sisu' across different cultures.
The term 'sisu' refers to "extraordinary determination, courage and resoluteness in the face of extreme adversity. An action mindset which enables individuals to reach beyond their present limitation, take action against all odds and transform barriers into frontiers. An integral element of Finnish culture and also a universal capacity, which we all share." (https://sisulab.com/sisu-about/)
The survey is part of the 'Sisu at Work' project, conducted by the University of Helsinki and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd. in collaboration with Flinders University.

We are seeking participants for a study investigating how people manage their multiple roles in day-to-day life.
This project will investigate how individuals experience and cope with situations in which their social identities have conflicting expectations.
Social identities are the groups and roles we identify with in our day-to-day life, they may include being a parent, a worker, an athlete, a student, or other groups and roles.
Due to individuals having many different social identities, there may be times when an individual is unable to adhere to the expectations of both identities at once. A working parent, for example, may be unable to simultaneously prioritise their working and parenting commitments.
We are interested in how conflicts between social identities impact on overall psychological well-being, and if there are management strategies that enable people to cope with conflicts more effectively.
Participation will involve completing an 20-30 minute online survey. You’ll be asked a number of questions, including what your social groups/roles are, how important these social groups are to you, and whether the expectations of these social groups conflict with each other.
You’ll also be asked to rate your emotions (including emotions such as shame, anger, remorse, pride and others). Some questions will ask how you responded in situations when your social groups had conflicting expectations of you (e.g., whether you took time to think about the best way to deal with the situation, whether you tried to avoid the situation, whether you could not stop thinking about the situation).
