Game developers design, code, and shape the worlds that players explore. They work across a range of settings in Australia, from small indie studios to large AAA teams, and may also take on freelance projects. The industry is expanding rapidly, with opportunities in entertainment, education, and simulation.
The role combines technical and creative skills, involving the use of computer software and hardware to build game frameworks, engines, and features. Developers also design and refine gameplay elements, test and debug systems, and solve problems using logical and methodical approaches.
Beyond gaming, simulations are used in defence, aviation, health and emergency services. You’ll develop training programs, digital twins, and virtual environments that teach real-world skills.
These roles combine creativity with high responsibility, often in collaboration with experts from other industries.
