The Mechanical Engineering postgraduate program at Flinders enables you to push the boundaries to prepare you for the future of advanced mechanical systems. There are a wide range of employment opportunities in various industries such as: automotive, aerospace, mining, oil & gas, energy generation, product design, manufacturing, automation, medical devices and technologies, and defence.
All our Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Engineering degrees are accredited by Engineers Australia at the level of professional engineer. Professional engineering courses accredited by Engineers Australia are recognised internationally under the Washington Accord. Graduates meet the academic requirements for attaining chartered professional engineering status.
The Master of Engineering (Mechanical) provides both core and optional advanced topics such as Solid Mechanics, Control Systems, Applied Thermo-Fluid Dynamics, Mechanics of Machines, Renewable Energy, Advanced Mechanical Design, Finite Element Methods, Fatigue and Fracture, Materials Selection, Project Management & Innovation and Standards and Ethics.
This course provides a variety of significant project work. Examples include: Mechanical Design Project (through the national Warman Design & Build Competition), and the Master’s Thesis Project that may tackle an industry-relevant problem or a research question. It also includes a project-based topic “Advanced Mechanical Design” together with a 12-week industry placement.
Applicants must normally hold a bachelor degree or equivalent qualification in mechanical engineering or closely related field; or hold the Graduate Diploma in Engineering Science (Mechanical stream) from Flinders University or have completed a minimum of 1 year full-time equivalent in the Master of Engineering Science (Mechanical) from Flinders University or equivalent qualification.
A knowledge of mathematics (equivalent to second year university mathematics including Fourier and Laplace Transforms) and a knowledge of Materials and Dynamics is assumed.
Applicants without such a qualification should apply for the Master of Engineering Science (Mechanical) (2CM240).
