In partnership with Channel 44, and sponsored by Banks and Brown, Flinders students have created an exciting new television series - Couch 44. Showcasing a fun and vibrant Adelaide, the nine episodes are television made by youths for youths. Couch 44 explores arts, culture, politics, science and LGBTQA+ and women’s topics in Adelaide.
During her time at Flinders University, Couch 44 producer Madison Siegertsz, graduate of the Bachelor of Creative Arts (Screen), had the opportunity to study alongside experts in the film industry. The chance to produce the television series came about during her industry placement at Channel 44 as a production coordinator. Out of the 27 members of the Couch 44 crew, 16 were Flinders students.
Flinders Bachelor of Creative Arts (Screen) offers an extensive set of skills to prepare you for a range of creative occupations in film, television, and creative industries. This hands-on, training-based degree in Creative Arts (Screen) fully prepared the Couch 44 crew for the workplace.
Channel 44 General Manager Lauren Hillman said, ‘New series Couch 44 not only demonstrates one of the fantastic opportunities that has been forged out of our Creative Industries partnership with Flinders Uni but also demonstrates the impressive initiative driven by some very talented students to create and produce such a big series with 100% volunteer student-led crew.’
Couch 44 is an exciting talk show with an engaging format that invites viewers to discover Adelaide’s underground culture through documentaries, interviews and local live music performances. It is a fun way to rediscover Adelaide and its hidden talent.
Madison Siegertsz said ‘The biggest takeaway from the show was that this experience reminded me why I wanted to pursue a career in film and television in the first place - to make positive change. I hope that Couch 44 encourages people to see more of what Adelaide has to offer.'
Couch 44 aired its first episode on Monday, 31 May.
Check out the episodes every Monday at 8:30 pm ACST on Channel 44.

‘’It was very surreal, but amazing to see my work on television. I had been working on this series for months and to see all that hard work pay off is the best feeling.’’
