Can avoiding the ‘same old, same old’ put you on track to a new job and a new tomorrow?
With Australia experiencing a national career shortage, now is the time to get back on track and gain the skills and qualifications you need to advance your career or move into a career you’re passionate about.
It’s simple. If you think about your future, you can take the steps to change it. If you want to work towards a better job, you’re looking improve your position in your current job, or if you simply want to earn more money, you can’t just keep doing the same old, same old.
Sometimes, inertia can be the biggest barrier to change and success. It can be so much easier to just continue down the road you’re on. The problem is that sometimes travelling down that road becomes so easy that you lose track of where you originally wanted to go.
Let’s say Alexis left high school the year before last. With the pandemic in full swing, it was easy to put uni on hold and wait until things got back to normal. After graduation, Alexis wanted a career, not just a job, but with lockdowns and industries shaken up, it didn’t seem to be the right time.
Alexis’s part time job was pretty secure, so it seemed like a great idea to take a year, build up some cash then start uni later..
Alex’s part time job was pretty secure, so he planned to take a year, build up some cash then start uni later.
Alexis started down that road. Then the economy started to pick up. The boss threw in some extra hours and suddenly Alexis was making pretty good money. A full-time position opened up, so it seemed sensible to hang in a little longer to build up the bank. The work became easier, and when new part-timers needed a little help, Alexis took on supervising them.
But it was only going to be for a little while… a couple of months, max.
But that was over a year ago. Why? Because Alexis settled in and kept heading down the road, doing the same old, same old. Now there’s nothing wrong with where things were heading, except that Alexis didn’t really want to go there. Alexis’s career ambitions faded away as it became easy to keep on cruising.
