This digital technologies / advanced manufacturing research area has a focus on four interrelated streams: innovation management, industry 4.0, human factors and digital transformation.
The digital transformation stream explores industry 4.0 readiness and maturity and building sovereign manufacturing capability in primes and the SME supply chain for performance and competitiveness.
Training
The transformative, award-winning Diploma of Digital Technologies has upskilled employees in primes, the supply chain and STEM teachers to grow the capability in defence.
It received national recognition, winning the Australian Defence Industry Award for the Training and Mentorship Program of the Year in 2020, by Defence Connect for the collaboration between Flinders University and BAE Systems Australia.
It also won the Industry Collaboration award at the SA Training Awards in 2021. Its Program Director, Professor Giselle Rampersad has also been named STEMM Educator of the Year in 2021 in the SA Science Excellence and Innovation Awards.
The program contributes to building sovereign manufacturing capability that benefits defence, naval shipbuilding, aerospace and other manufacturing sectors. It is undertaken by employees from across maritime to aerospace defence including BAE Systems Australia, Boeing Defence, Lockheed Martin Australia, Nova Systems, SMEs and teachers. It includes a focus on digital design, design for manufacture, cybersecurity, innovation and industry 4.0, cyber-physical systems robotics and autonomation, electronics and digital transformation.
The Diploma of Digital Technologies provides credit into further study including Bachelor degrees in engineering, IT, cybersecurity and design. At the postgraduate level, the Graduate Diploma in Engineering Management provides a pathway into the Masters of Engineering Management.
