Thank you for your interest in studying Education at Flinders.
All prospective students interested in studying an initial teacher education course in South Australia are required to complete a non-academic assessment task known as a Teaching Capabilities Statement. This is a requirement of the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) and supports the national priority to ensure those entering the teaching profession have the personal qualities to best support learners and graduate as classroom ready, high quality teachers.
The statement allows applicants the opportunity to demonstrate their motivation to teach, their strong interpersonal and communication skills, willingness to learn, resilience, self-efficacy, and strong organisational and planning skills.
The Teaching Capabilities Statement comprises a 400-600 word written response to the following questions:
Your response to the Teaching Capabilities Statement should include reference to any relevant community service, volunteer or professional experiences you have had that relate to teaching. You can write your response in any format, but we suggest using first person and a narrative style.
The Teaching Capabilities Statement is designed to encourage you to think about your choice to study to become a teacher and your skills, personal qualities and relevant school or life experiences that will contribute to your development as a teacher.
You must submit your statement as part of your application. You will be prompted to submit your teaching capabilities statement upon selecting your chosen course.
Internal transfer applicants must submit their statement via the student information system as part of the internal transfer application process.
Please note, one statement can be submitted per intake and once submitted the statement cannot be modified.
