The courses in palliative care in aged care at Flinders have been developed to provide practitioners from backgrounds in gerontology, aged care or palliative care with education in the specialty area of palliative care in aged care. What you will study

The masters is designed to enable practitioners to select a series of topics built on core materials that will assist them to address particular needs within their discipline and clinical setting. Topics cover areas such as introduction to social gerontology, communication at the end of life, understanding literature for evidence-based practice, palliative care in aged care settings, introduction to clinical gerontology, psychological dimensions of ageing, healthy ageing (mental health), medication and ageing, best practice in dementia care, and design and ethics in research with vulnerable populations.

Graduate Diploma

Applicants must normally hold a bachelor degree or equivalent qualification in a health-related discipline, and have a minimum of two years' full-time equivalent professional experience in the health sector or closely related field by the commencement date of the course; or hold the Graduate Certificate in Palliative Care from Flinders University or equivalent qualification.

Masters

Applicants must normally hold a bachelor degree or equivalent qualification in a health-related discipline and have a minimum of two years' full-time equivalent clinical involvement in palliative care, aged care or a related field by the commencement date of the course; or hold the Graduate Certificate or the Graduate Diploma in Palliative Care, or the Graduate Diploma in Palliative Care in Aged Care, or the Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Applied Gerontology from Flinders University or equivalent qualification.
