The postgraduate language teaching program is valuable for the professional development of teachers, offering you the possibility to improve your career prospects in both the public and private school sector. From the outset, staff seek to stimulate your interest and make you want to know more about your chosen language and the culture and society in which it is used.
The courses accommodate the needs of registered South Australian teachers who, as part of a retraining program, wish to acquire a language other than English and the appropriate qualifications to include language teaching in their skills.
These courses are designed for qualified teachers who are beginners in a language or have some background knowledge of the chosen language, but have never formally studied it.
The languages offered in these courses include French, Indonesian, Italian, Modern Greek and Spanish.
These courses are not available for 2019 entry.

Graduates are suitable for careers as Languages other than English (LOTE) teachers of French, Indonesian, Italian, Modern Greek or Spanish in both public and private schools. This course is designed for the professional development of already qualified teachers.
These courses do not lead to teacher registration.
The initial first-semester topic for the graduate certificate and graduate diploma presumes no previous knowledge of the language. Both courses include the study of language through the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing; the study of the society and culture of the country or countries where the language is spoken; as well as an introduction to second language acquisition theory and teaching strategies. The methodology module for the graduate diploma comprises a further topic in second language teaching methodology.
