The public sector management master’s degree offers a solid grounding in management theory, the public sector management act, public sector expectations, culture, governance, policy and strategy enabling you to take a step up into more demanding roles as a senior executive. Graduates are suitable for careers in management or leadership roles in the public service, local and national government or in private and non-government organisations.
The study program includes a mixture of compulsory and elective topics, as well as individual research.
Topics cover areas such as contemporary public sector management, organisational politics, culture and management in the public sector, strategic change management, public financial management and a professional research project.
Some electives can be incorporated from other graduate programs including international relations, international business, environmental management, social work, public health and educational management.
Masters students have the opportunity to undertake an internship. A Flinders’ internship helps you graduate work-ready and provides experience directly related to a specialist area in your degree.
Applicants for the graduate diploma must normally hold a bachelor degree or equivalent from an approved tertiary institution.
The Master of Public Sector Management is normally available to applicants who hold an approved degree or an equivalent qualification from an approved tertiary institution.
Applicants must provide an electronic copy of either their original or certified copy of their Official Academic Transcript for all qualifications relevant to their application. Unofficial academic transcripts, statement of results, exam slips, screen shots of grades, AHEGS etc. will not be accepted.
If academic transcripts are in a language other than English, applicants must submit copies of both the original documents and full translations. Translations must show results for all subjects undertaken and be certified by an independent accredited translator. It is an applicant’s responsibility to comply with requests to provide further documentation, either in the original language or English translation.
Flinders graduates of a Bachelor degree or Flinders students currently completing their Bachelor degree at Flinders are not required to provide a copy of their official transcript for their Flinders course.
An application can be made for up to 3 courses in order of preference. You will be assessed for entry to the course you are eligible for as per your preferences.
