Choose a major in Australian Studies

Understand your place in the world.

Australia is founded on a rich Indigenous and multicultural past and present. Understanding Australia's pre-contact and present Indigenous and settler-colonial histories and identities is mandatory for anyone aspiring to work in the public or private sectors, in jobs including journalism, policy making or Aboriginal organisations.

A major in Australian Studies includes topics in history, Indigenous studies, sociology, screen studies, women’s studies, cultural studies, tourism, archaeology, legal studies, geography, literature, politics, philosophy and Aboriginal languages. You’ll expand your understanding of Australian society, culture and politics, and of where we are now, as well as where we're heading in the future. There is also a focus on diverse contemporary issues and issues relating to all Australians, Indigenous and non-Indigenous alike. These topics will prepare you for a range of employment opportunities and to make connections between Australia, the broader Asia-Pacific region and the world.
