The electrical and electronic engineering component of this course is a comprehensive, accredited degree providing both a theoretical and a practical basis of electrical and electronic systems, and allows you to specialise in one of four areas; electrical engineering, electronic engineering, computer and network systems or systems and security.

The engineering management component combines the problem-solving and technical design ability of engineering with executive organisational skills and the planning power of business and management.

Professional engineering courses accredited by Engineers Australia are recognised internationally under the Washington Accord. What you will study

First year

A typical first year may include:

study with student engineers of all disciplines and core topics in environmental science, engineering design, professional skills, engineering programming, engineering physics and materials, engineering mechanics, and mathematics
commonality in the first year that means you can transfer between engineering disciplines easily at the end of the year.

Second year

A typical second year may include:

core topics in electrical circuits and machines, engineering mathematics, automation and industrial control, analysis of engineering systems, electronic circuits, sensors and actuators, and computer programming

a choice of 3 majors: Advanced Electrical Engineering, Advanced Electronic Engineering, and Electronic Systems and Security.

Third year

A typical third year may include:

topics in engineering project management together with studies that look at working as a professional engineer

continuation with your chosen major

a 20-week industry placement.

Fourth Honours year

A typical honours year may include:

Study a variety of topics like design for manufacture, sustainable engineering, principles of commercial law, and systems engineering.

You'll have the opportunity to undertake a 20-week industry placement as part of your degree. One of the longest work placements offered in Australia, it enables you to work alongside professional engineers tackling real-world problems.
