Beyond interest rates and financial markets, today’s economists focus on improving our quality of life and influencing change for people, profits, and the planet. Their deep knowledge of finance, international relations, and public policy—and passion for business sustainability, ethical practices, and new technologies—means they understand how the world works. As an Economist, your studies of human behaviour and market dynamics will empower you to impact the world.
Discover a career path rich in opportunity, with roles as diverse as Macroeconomist, Economic Reporter, Property Economist, Statistician or Senior Market Analyst.
In this world-shaping career, you'll use your analytical skills for good to evaluate the economic factors driving global economies and financial markets. Armed with data from socio-economic groups, industries, and economies, you’ll advise businesses and governments on how to make informed decisions on policies and investments.
As an Economic Analyst, you'll spend your days investigating why financial markets react the way they do. Or as a Financial Risk Analyst, you'll be predicting how the future will be impacted by economic changes, and advise how to create a different outcome.

Coming to a new country, Flinders made me feel really welcome and I truly felt the difference in their approach to studies compared to India. The faculty is helpful, the study materials are top-quality, and the subjects are interesting—these being main attractions.

If you want to impact your world, as an economist you'll be driving positive change. The study of economics gives you analytical, strategic, and decision-making skills which are transferable across a diverse range of roles within the private and public sectors—at home and abroad.
Technically economics is a social science, however economists still require a solid foundation in maths, including algebra, calculus, and statistics.
The study of economics will teach you how to analyse and provide business solutions to today's economic problems (recession, unemployment, and sustainable practices). You'll have an enviable skillset that could lead to a lucrative career in government, trade unions, financial firms, private consulting firms, international organisations, commercial organisations, and not-for-profits.
