How avoiding the ‘same old, same old’ can put you on track to the jobs of tomorrow
The pandemic stopped a lot of people from thinking about their future careers, but now is the time to get back on track and gain the skills and qualifications you need to advance your career or move into a career you’re passionate about.
It’s simple. If you think about your future, you can take steps to change it. If you want to work towards a future career, you’re looking for career advancement, or you simply want to earn more money, you can’t just keep doing the same old, same old.
Sometime inertia can be the biggest barrier to change and success. It can be so much easier to just continue down the road you’re on. The problem is that sometimes travelling down that road becomes so easy you can lose track of where you originally wanted to go.
Let’s say Alex left high school the year before last. With the pandemic in full swing, it was easy to put uni on hold and wait until things got back to normal. When he graduated, Alex knew he wanted a career, not just a job, but with lockdowns and industries shaken up, it didn’t seem the right time.
Alex’s part time job was pretty secure, so he planned to take a year, build up some cash then start uni later.
Alex started down that road. Then the economy started to pick up and suddenly Alex was making pretty good money. A full-time position opened up, so he decided to hang in a little longer to build up the bank. The work became easier, and when new part-timers needed a little help, Alex took on supervising them.
It was only for a while… couple of months, max. But that was over a year ago.
Alex settled in and kept heading down the road, doing the same old, same old. And there’s nothing wrong with where Alex was heading, except that he didn’t really want to go there. He lost track of his career ambitions.
You can keep your future career ambitions on track in the same way you travel on a real road. How?
