Why starting university midyear could help you change your career, or start a new career.
Flinders has two student intakes each year. Our first semester starts in February, which is when most people who leave high school, or who have decided to return to study, like to begin their journey. Others prefer to apply for a semester 2 start in July. This is what we call midyear entry.
For most courses, the answer is definitely yes, but it pays to check the individual course pages to make sure.
Midyear entry is a great way to kick-start your studies. Whether you’ve had a break since high school or are returning to study later in life, why wait another 6 months when you can get ahead of the game now? Apply for July and start your fearless journey.
Here are 3 reasons why you might want to consider opting for midyear entry at Flinders.
If you recently finished high school, you might have decided to take a break from studying. The pandemic may have slowed down international travel opportunities, but around 1 in 4 school leavers still opt for a gap year, perhaps to travel locally, earn money, or just relax. Whatever the reason, semester 2 is the time to get back on track and gain the skills and qualifications you need to advance your career or move into a career you’re passionate about.
Perhaps you applied for semester 1 entry, but you didn’t get the ATAR you wanted or missed out on your first preference. No stress – many universities, including Flinders, allocate additional places for the semester 2 intake. This gives you a second chance to secure a spot in your preferred course. There are also a wide range of support options available to help you work towards your future career.
While you might start your degree a little later than other students, this doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll graduate later than them too. Many midyear courses offer summer classes or intensives so you can get ahead and complete your degree sooner.
With semester 2 entry at Flinders, you can gain the skills and qualifications you need to move into a career you’re passionate about sooner.
Applying to study at Flinders is simple, even if you’ve been out of the school system for a while. Applications are made via the South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre (SATAC) at satac.edu.au.
Whether you’ve completed year 12, studied at TAFE, or already hold a bachelor’s degree, midyear entry is available at all levels. What works for one person may not work for another, which is why we provide various pathways into Flinders in semester 1 and 2.
