Moving away from home is an exciting, but challenging, experience. The Flinders Living team is there to support you. We want you to have a smooth transition to university life.
The best way to settle into Flinders Living is to arrive on Move-In Day and attend orientation. Give yourself time to adjust to a new home, familiarise yourself with the campus and get to know the people who will become lifelong friends. O’Week is packed full of free food, activities, comedians, musicians and information. Every day is different. You’ll learn everything you need to know about being a student at Flinders. From where to grab lunch or the best coffee, to where you can find academic support, counselling and doctors on campus.
Firstly, ensure you’ve accepted your offers to study and live at Flinders University. From Flinders Living, you can expect an email offering you a place at University Hall or Deirdre Jordan Village. The email will outline everything you need to know about your accommodation, what you need to bring and how to respond.
Secondly, please make sure you carefully read through any information sent to you from Flinders Living administration, especially the admissions information sheets available below.
You may want to pack or purchase when you get here:
In each room, you’ll find a long single bed, desk, bookshelves, wardrobe, power board, study chair, cooling fan, convection heater, waste paper bin, mirror, towel rail and wifi receiver.
The laundries are equipped with washing machines, tumble dryers, irons and ironing boards in both the University Hall and Deirdre Jordan Village.
If you wish to bring furniture, remember that anything you bring will need to be taken home during the summer holidays and when you leave. There is no storage for the university’s furniture and it cannot be moved into corridors or common spaces. Any furniture you supply will need to fit in your room.
You’ll also need to submit a request for approval of non-university furniture (PDF).
If you’re in doubt about whether an item will be allowed, you can contact Flinders Living.
Please refrain from bringing:
If you arrive between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday you may go directly to Flinders Living Administration which is located on Level 1, University Hall just inside the glass sliding doors at the top of a flight of stairs. Our staff will be able to check you into your room.
If you arrive outside these hours there will be a Duty Residential Tutor (University Hall) or Duty Residential Coordinator (Deirdre Jordan Village) available to assist you. Go to the entrance to Level 1, University Hall and please use the telephone which is located to the right of the glass sliding doors to telephone the Tutor or Coordinator.
If you become lost when you arrive at the University campus please use the full number above and ask for assistance.
(If you are using a GPS please enter the address "1 Hall Terrace, Bedford Park, South Australia". While this will not get you all the way to the Hall your destination will only be 100 metres further up this road. Please ask your driver to continue on a little further and then take a sharp left hand turn into the "turn around" at the front of the Hall.)
The campus map (PDF) may also be of assistance to you, see map reference Q9.
Whenever and however you arrive there will always be someone available to check you in, show you to your room and, even it is very late at night or early in the morning, make sure that you are well settled into your new home.
To make your start in Adelaide as easy as possible, International Student Services offers a free meet and greet service for new international students. Please make full use of this service, especially if you have not travelled to Australia before and have no friends or family in Adelaide. This is the best way to avoid stress upon arrival!
A member of our Arrival team will meet you at Adelaide Airport, at the railway station or at the Central Bus Station and assist you and your accompanying family members with organising transport to your accommodation, including supplementing the cost for the trip.
All you need to do to is book our free meet and greet service. This service is only available if your booking is received at least five days before you arrive. Should you arrive by bus or train, please add a comment and more details under “Additional Information”. Once you have successfully submitted your Meet & Greet request you will receive an email as your final booking confirmation.
