We are conducting research in close collaboration with our industry and clinical partners. We are further committed to advancing Australia's medtech (medical technology) sector and support a range of initiatives including:
The Alertness CRC is an industry-focused program looking at alertness, safety, productivity improvement and sleep research for the workforce. MDRI researchers work with Alertness CRC contributing to device planning, development and personalised sleep health management.
The ARC CMIT connects world-leading biomedical engineers, scientists and clinicians with medical implant global supply chain providers from Australia, China, Belgium, UK and the USA. MDRI researchers are supporting ARC CMIT’s research translation goals for best practices for industry and clinical practice, new products, processes and solutions.
BridgeTech is a national professional development program training researchers and entrepreneurs on the commercialisation pathway of new medical technologies. MDRI is a consortium partner of the program led by the Queensland University of Technology.
The new Flinders Digital Health IoT Laboratory is a unique space promoting medical simulation, digital health design and IoT (internet of things) in health. It is a collaborative initiative with Cisco, the Digital Health Research Centre and MDRI working together on emerging technologies to improve healthcare.
Flinders University, through the Medical Device Partnering Program, is a delivery partner of the CTCM program. The $19.75 million program, administered by MTPConnect, is an initiative of the Medical Research Future Fund designed to identify and nurture high-quality medical device projects that have commercial potential and support their translation through early clinical trials.
Flinders is one of three partners providing mentoring and commercialisation advice to CTCM applicants and awardees.
The Australia-China Centre for Personal Health Technologies, led by Flinders University, is a partnership between MDRI, La Trobe University, Motherson Innovations (Adelaide-based manufacturer) and Chinese partners Nankai University, Shandong Academy of Science, South China University of Technology and Shenzhen AIEgen Biotech. Together, we are developing state-of-the-art personal medical devices incorporating smartphone technology for e-health services, real-time health insights and illness management.
An initiative of the Medical Research Future Fund and delivered by MTP Connect, the TTRA program provides $47 million of funding to improve the prevention, management and treatment of diabetes and cardiovascular disease in Australia.
Flinders University, through the Medical Device Partnering Program, is one of five partners responsible for assessing and supporting eligible medical technology applications for funding.
