We represent research capabilities across psychology, social science, public health and education.
With a whole-of-person approach, our researchers seek to develop solutions across the lifespan that revolutionise how we understand, address and prevent mental illness across the following themes:
Stemming from a range of academic disciplines, our researchers, specialists, policy-influencers and changemakers are committed to co-designing solutions to benefit those who need it most.
We partner with services and people with lived experience to develop evidence-based research.
Our research in practice
The mental health and wellbeing challenges faced by our children and youth are myriad across educational and community settings. Our research covers multiple aspects, particularly relating to sleep, trauma, gaming, social media use, pressures to achieve, body image and bullying.
Struggles with disordered eating can be lifelong, and sometimes life ending. Our research is forming a comprehensive picture of the causes of disordered eating. We are also engaged in preventative, evidence-based community programs and consulting with government and relevant organisations to help prevent and treat disordered eating.
Our research informs policy and practice regarding veterans and other first responder personnel transitioning from service to civilian life. Transition poses challenges and opportunities across the life domains of housing, education, employment, justice, mobility and health. The experience of trauma can also be a challenge, and our research explores evidenced-based early intervention approaches for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), trauma-related disorders and the enhancement of wellbeing.
We are testing innovative ways to build mental wellbeing and resilience in individuals, families and communities across the country through sport and physical activity. Our research is helping to develop mental health fitness in youth through community sport, enhance parental involvement and the youth sport experience and increase physical activity across all age groups.
Wellbeing across the lifespan is vital to both individuals and communities. Our research focuses on maximising wellness and resilience in older people to help them cope with life transitions and developing approaches to aid decision-making in people with cognitive decline.
