Hills Mallee Fleurieu

Flinders University Rural and Remote Health SA has a large presence in the Hills Mallee Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island region with rural campuses in both Murray Bridge and Victor Harbor.

Third year Doctor of Medicine students undertake the 12-month Doctor of Medicine Rural Stream (MDRS) based at Mannum, Murray Bridge, Strathalbyn, Goolwa, Middleton and Kingscote (Kangaroo Island).

Students are principally attached to a general practice, but also learn alongside health professionals in hospitals, community health centres, outreach agencies, Aboriginal Medical Services, and with private allied health practitioners.

Nursing, allied health and fourth-year medical students undertake shorter clinical placements at hospital, health services and prisons throughout the region.

Murray Bridge campus

Located behind the Murray Bridge hospital, this Flinders University rural campus supports the delivery of a range of inter-professional and discipline-specific educational experiences.

Students have access to video-conference, consulting rooms, a large clinical practice workshop suite and student common facilities including a kitchen.

The Murray Bridge campus opened in 2012 and was funded by the Department of Health and Ageing.

Victor Harbor campus

The Victor Harbor campus opened in 2009 and is within the grounds of the South Coast District Hospital.

This modern, custom-built facility provides support to students taking part in the MDRS program, through the provision of study rooms, videoconferencing suites, clinical training facilities, a computer lab and student common areas.
