For Students

The Student-Alumni Mentoring Program (StAMP) is facilitated by the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences to provide third year Arts students with the opportunity to be professionally mentored by industry representatives and Flinders alumni. The application process opens in March of each year with participants advised of the outcome of their application in late April.

Students accepted into the Program will be invited to a training session and welcome function in May.

From April to November you will have eight mentoring sessions with your mentor. That’s roughly one session per month. You will negotiate with your mentor whether these sessions will be held over the phone, or face to face, or a combination of both.

There will also be two networking events, one at the start of the program and one at completion of the Program. These are optional to attend, however they do provide a great opportunity to connect and network with the mentors and other students in the program.

Depending on what is discussed with your mentor, you may also need to prepare materials prior to meetings, or attend activities and events.

Mentees will be required to complete a short reflective exercise in order to complete the Program and receive their certificates.

To be a HASS StAMP mentee you must 18 years of age or older and be enrolled in your final year or honours year of a degree in one of the following programs:

• Bachelor of Arts
• Bachelor of Creative Arts (Dance, Visual Arts, Digital Media, Creative Writing, Screen, Drama)

As part of the registration process you will need to submit a detailed application form, which articulates your aspirations and why you are applying to participate in the Program.

Within the application process both students and mentors will indicate their mentoring preferences. Students will then be matched with a suitable mentor. Mentors and students will be matched depending on each person’s skills, goals and areas of expertise.

If you have an existing relationship with a professional who is working in the Arts and would like to formalise it as a mentor/mentee relationship within the StAMP please contact the Program administrator to advise them of this.

Yes, you’ll have the opportunity to include this request in your application, however, please bear in mind that we may not have mentors who meet your exact requirements. If this happens you can choose to accept an alternate mentor. You will have the option to indicate this on the registration form.
