The Research in Inclusive and Specialised Education (RISE) Initiative is a cross-disciplinary team of researchers, consultants and professional educators committed to supporting inclusive classrooms, schools and communities in which every child and young person can thrive.
We bring diverse research expertise and a sustained track record of collaborating with industry partners to produce research with real-world impact.
Flinders University is one of Australia’s most experienced providers of education for specialist teachers and leaders working with students with disability, advanced abilities and specialised educational requirements across a range of settings.
RISE aims to produce and disseminate high-impact research that informs and enhances world class inclusive education for diverse young people.
We are passionate about inclusion and committed to informing and enhancing inclusive classrooms, schools, and communities so that diverse children and young people can thrive.
Our research addresses all facets of inclusive education within multi-tiered systems of support, including:
evidence-based ‘universal’ practices to promote academic achievement, positive behaviour and wellbeing for all students
more intensive, targeted supports for students at-risk or experiencing difficulties, when and how it is needed
personalised programming for students with more complex, specialised needs
We are interested in local, state, national and international collaboration for research related to diversity, inclusion, and the education of diverse students.
Establishing and Sustaining a Schoolwide Multi-Tiered System of Support Framework for Inclusive Education.
We are seeking candidates for a PhD scholarship for an industry funded research project focused on inclusive education: Establishing and Sustaining a Schoolwide Multi-Tiered System of Support Framework for Inclusive Education.
The project is a long-term, four-year partnership between the Flinders University Research in Inclusive & Specialised Education (RISE) team and Riverbanks College to support the establishment of Schoolwide Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) for inclusive education. It is based on an iterative co-design approach, such that specific components and strategies to address the College’s broad aims will develop over time and in collaboration, as Riverbanks College and its priorities related to inclusive education develop.
Within this project, the PhD candidate will have scope to research an area of interest that addresses tiered academic, social, emotional and/or behavioural MTSS (e.g., Schoolwide Positive Behaviour Support).
