College of Business, Government and Law
The College of Business, Government and Law Industry Advisory Board consists of industry leaders and practitioners who provide expert advice on our educational and research mission and strategy. The Board ensures that our educational programs and courses prepare students with the skills that they require in a rapidly changing workforce. It also facilitates the practical relevance of our research and its contribution towards cutting-edge education and social impact.
Meetings take place three times per year.

Membership will be by invitation, with all external members appointed by the Vice-President and Executive Dean of the College of Business, Government and Law.
Members will be appointed for a three-year term.
Our members
Kim Cheater (Chair)
Kim is a former Managing Partner with PwC and also led their Governance and Risk Consulting practice in Adelaide for over 20 years. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors as well as a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.
Kim has a number of Board roles including Chair of the SA Museum, Chair of Alwyndor Aged Care and on the Advisory Board for the SARAH Group. He is also the Chair of the Warriparinga Advisory Team that supports Southern Cultural Immersion (a Kaurna owned business managing the Living Kaurna Cultural Centre).
Kim led PwC's reconciliation initiatives for over 10 years and, in that time, PwC achieved an Elevate RAP program with Reconciliation Australia. He was appointed by the Governor as an Ambassador for Aboriginal Employment and was recognised as a Distinguished Alumni by Flinders University for his contribution to business and reconciliation.
Sharon Wilson
As the Continuous Naval Shipbuilding (CNS) Strategy Director at BAE Systems Maritime Australia, Sharon is responsible CNS Strategy and Plans for the Hunter Class Frigate Program. Her role includes responsibility for the Innovation program, the governance and measurement framework for CNS and AIC and the Exports and Future Business strategy and growth for BAE Systems Maritime Australia.
In the more than 30 years she has worked at BAE Systems, Sharon has held many positions including leadership roles in project management, procurement, estimating and as the General Manager of the BAE Systems Global Supply Chain program and Head of Industrial Strategy.
Sharon is a member of the Flinders University Advisory Council and Chair of the SA Government’s Defence Innovation Partnerships board.
Sharon understands the breadth and depth of Australian industry capability and the power of collaboration with Defence across academia, research, primes, and small and medium-sized enterprises. She brings an enthusiastic and holistic approach to Defence and industry collaborations that will support the needs of Defence now and into the future.
Sharon lives in the Adelaide Hills on a small acreage which includes a vineyard.
Matt Woodrow
Matthew Woodrow is a senior business leader who brings fresh and progressive thinking, a passion for developing individual talent and building high performing teams, and an enviable ability to create sustainable organisational value.
Matt is currently employed by the Sarah Group, holding dual executive positions as Chief Operating Officer of Sarah Group Holdings and Chief Financial Officer of Sarah Constructions. Across Matt’s roles he is responsible for the strategic direction and performance of the Sarah Family Office, Head Office support functions, and Commercial operations including reporting & compliance, financial planning & analysis, procure-to-pay, internal & external audit, risk & governance, legal, technology, PMO, shared services, treasury and investments. Matt is a member of each business unit executive, and co-ordinates all activities of the group board.
Matt has a broad set of formal qualifications, including a Master of Business Administration, a Graduate Diploma in Chartered Accounting and a Bachelor of Commerce. Furthermore, Matt is a graduate of the AICD Company Directors Course and has undertaken various relevant subjects within the Construction Law Master’s at Melbourne University. Matt has also attended the Harvard Business School in Boston and INSEAD in Singapore completing courses on Innovation and Leadership.
In 2019 Matt was recognized for his contribution to the property and construction industry, being named Young Property Professional of the Year (SA). In the same year Matt was also shortlisted as a finalist for the Future Leader of the Year (Australia).
Kane Ellis
Kane Ellis is a young achiever and entrepreneur born in South Australia.
Kane Ellis is best known for his venture “CarSwap app” which he Co-Founded in 2016. Kane has also been studying cryptocurrency since 2010 and has contributed a lot of his wealth from cryptocurrency investments.
Kane Ellis has an extensive background in Technology and Innovation starting his tech consultancy company “Nerd Herd” at the age of 18. Kane is an enthusiastic goal-oriented achiever with strong values which help ensure mutual benefit in every dealing he partakes. His expertise and passion includes automotive, technology, business, marketing, and cryptocurrencies.
Tom Griffiths
Tom Griffiths is the Chief Executive, Insurance at RAA.
Since joining RAA in early 2008, Tom has been a key member of RAA’s Executive team. Tom was appointed Chief Executive, Insurance in September 2020 having previously been the Group CFO, leading the organisation’s strategy and operations for Finance, Tax, Investments, Brand, Membership, and digital. From 2008 to 2016, Tom was RAA’s General Manager of Sales and Marketing.
Prior to working for RAA, Tom held a senior leadership position within the digital arm of Sensis (Telstra); created new business opportunities as a senior member of the PricewaterhouseCoopers Asia Pacific Leadership Team and worked for Independent Television News (ITN) in London.
Dr Eva Balan-Vnuk
Dr Eva Balan-Vnuk is the Executive Director and Chief Information Officer at the Department of the Premier and Cabinet, South Australia.
Eva is responsible for the strategic leadership and delivery of critical whole of government technology and cyber security services for South Australia Government in order to benefit citizens, businesses and public servants. Eva’s team enables more than 100,000 public servants and 30 agencies to provide important services to the South Australian community, with secure and resilient infrastructure, platforms and systems.
Prior to this role, Eva worked for Microsoft in Europe, Asia and Australia, including State Director for Microsoft South Australia. Eva has a PhD in innovation and entrepreneurship from the University of Adelaide with her thesis focused on the financial viability of non-profit social enterprises. Eva is also Founder and Chair of HerTechPath Incorporated, a grass-roots organisation dedicated to celebrating and inspiring careers for women and girls in the technology sector.
Greg Pattinson
Greg Pattinson is the Chief Executive Officer of Foodbank SA and brings extensive experience gained over 30 years in a number of industry sectors. After completing a Master of Science degree at Purdue University in the USA, specialising in food science, he advanced his career in senior management roles with iconic food companies such as Inghams, Berri, Tip Top, Goodman Fielder and Maggie Beer Products, in NSW, Victoria and SA. His experience and knowledge was further enhanced by moving into more diverse industries such as Mitsubishi Motors, and more recently in Brisbane as Executive Vice President for global mineral testing company Bureau Veritas.
With the downturn in the mining sector, Greg returned to Adelaide with a desire to contribute to the SA community which has been his home for over 30 years. Foodbank presented the ideal vehicle to use his experience, knowledge and contacts to help people in need, and he is enjoying every aspect of this new challenge, and especially the interaction with the corps of volunteers who help Foodbank every day.
Greg has been married for 33 years and has a 29yr old son and 21yr old daughter.

Kari Allen
Kari Allen is a strategic marketing specialist who spent much of her career working for iconic companies such as RM Williams, NIKE, ANZ and LendLease.
In May of 2016 she made her escape from the corporate sector to co-found social enterprise The Sparkke Change Beverage Company with acclaimed wine maker Rose Kentish.
Female founded and led, Sparkke launched with the most successful alcohol online pre-sale campaign in Australia’s history. Outspoken on social issues, it was (and still is) one of the first alcohol companies to directly tackle the entrenched cultural and gender stereotypes driving the world’s $500+ billion pa male-dominated industry.
Under Kari’s guidance in visual design and bold ideology, Sparkke has carved out its place as a values focussed craft beverage brand disrupting the status quo. The company’s signature packaging has been incorporated into live performance works, consent education programs and museum installations in Australia as well as internationally.
Sparkke’s passionate commitment to social equity and inclusivity has also translated into their award-winning brewpub Sparkke at the Whitmore, and most recently into Full Circle Spirits.
Kari’s international marketing experience is now applied full time to the group of companies.
Brooke Hall-Carney
Brooke Hall-Carney is an experienced commercial litigator who has worked on some of the largest and most complex litigation and government inquiries in Australia. Brooke acts for clients in relation to start-up disputes, space, cyber risk and data breaches, advises boards and executives on their cyber risk and strategy, and conducts cyber scenario training. Brooke regularly presents locally and internationally on emerging technologies including cyber, directors’ duties, data, crypto and block chain.
Brooke is responsible for LK’s technology and litigation resources and her expertise in this area is recognised in the industry with legal software developers seeking her input on their designs and Courts soliciting her views in relation to practice notes and rules regarding disclosure and electronic trials. Brooke is a member of the AICD and a director on Boards.
Brooke was recipient of a Commonwealth Fellowship to teach and study Master of Laws, University British Columbia in commercial law and native title law and completed at Harvard, Cybersecurity: Managing Risk in the Information Age. She was shortlisted in the Euromoney Asia Women in Business Law Awards in Privacy & Data Protection 2018; Doyle’s Guide 2017 and 2022; and shortlisted Lawyers Weekly Tech Partner of the Year 2022.
Brenton Caffin
Brenton Caffin is Executive Director, Strategy and Policy in the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
Brenton has over 25 years experience of working on and leading innovation and reform initiatives around the world, the last 13 of which as a senior executive in government and not-for-profit organisations. He is a respected leader in the global innovation community and over the last ten years, has advised governments in over 20 countries on ways that they can build an innovation culture and improve outcomes for citizens.
He is recognised as an innovative and strategic thinker and regularly presents to and advises national and global audiences on a wide range of issues relating to innovation and reform. He is also the co-founder and Executive Director of States of Change, a global not-for-profit organisation committed to building the next generation of public innovation. States of Change was spun out of Nesta, one of the world’s pre-eminent innovation institutions, where he spent over six years as Executive Director of Global Innovation Partnerships and Director of Innovation Skills. He also established The Australian Centre for Social Innovation in Adelaide as its founding CEO and has held several executive roles in the South Australian Government.
Annette Fidge
Annette is a senior executive with more than 25 years’ experience in business and digital transformation, turn around and growth strategies, organisational design and performance improvement.
She is currently the lead Partner at Ernst & Young, in the Adelaide consulting Business transformation team and her experience spans the private and public sectors and state government departments working with executives and Boards, and their C-suite bringing leadership skills to co-design quality outcomes and unlock value for her clients through strong governance, performance and capability.
Her experience includes working large non-profits in services delivery and infrastructure to deliver social impact. With a strong focus on team performance and team dynamics, Annette has also been a national level sports coach and administrator for over 20 years.
Annette holds a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Adelaide, an Executive Masters in Business Administration from the Australian Graduate School of Management and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment. She is also a member of the Australian Institute of Chartered Accountants and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
She is currently on the Board of Directors for Junction Australia and is Chair of their Finance, Risk and Audit Committee, and she also chairs the Education Advisory Committee for Scotch College, Adelaide.
Her previous board roles have included Softball Australia for 10 years, Softball South Australia, Baseball South Australia and Hockey South Australia.
