The Andrew Thyne Reid Scholarship has been established to encourage high-achieving nursing, midwifery and allied health students to complete professional experience placements (PEPs) in rural and remote locations.
Exceptional health professionals are critical to ensuring there is high quality health care in country areas, which in turn is essential for the vibrant, productive rural, regional and remote communities needed for Australia to prosper and remain sustainable into the future.
It is recognised that students completing placements in rural or remote areas can encounter significant expenses. This program will reduce the financial burden of PEPs and enable students to develop their skills and enjoy the experience of living in a rural or remote community.
The Program will be offered initially over two years commencing in 2020. It will support at least 20 students by providing a scholarship of up to $5,000 per recipient. The value will be determined by location and duration of placement. This is intended to cover accommodation, travel, living expenses, and other expenses associated with the placement. It will also provide some compensation for the loss of income and/or the expenses to maintain a home base in Adelaide.
The scholarship will be paid prior to the commencement of the placement.
An applicant must:
Scholarships will be available within the three areas of Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health.
The scholarship will be assessed based on financial need and academic merit.
Students will be required to provide evidence of financial hardship and/or the financial disadvantage they expect to experience as a direct result of undertaking a rural or remote PEP.
Scholarship selection will be made in accordance with procedures approved by the Director, Student Administration Services and at the discretion of the selection committee.
Applications should be submitted online through the Flinders University Student System by the specified closing date. Please ensure all of your personal details are up-to-date in the Student System as you will be assessed using this information.
