PhD scholarship in Digital Health

We are seeking a bright and enthusiastic candidate to join the Digital Health Lab to undertake PhD research under the supervision of A/Prof Niranjan Bidargaddi. Our research program focuses on shaping smart healthcare innovations for digitised world through co-design, product development & validation, and scale-up facilitation research.

This scholarship will support research within work underway in the Digital Health CRC project on enabling smart and better healthcare processes using automation. This project led by our lab in collaboration with SA Health is working with following technology platforms.

1. The first platform automates patient oversight from longitudinal health records (ie My Health Records) and activates smarter workflow processes. The first application of it is focused on treatment adherence monitoring use case in South Australian public Mental Health services. Ref: https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/0004867421998800. There are potentials to extend the platform to offer other preventative and public health interventions.
2. The second digital platform developed by technology partner goAct Pty Ltd offers configurable online screening and app-based self-management resource. In this project goAct Pty Ltd is implementing this platform for adult populations affected by ADHD. There are potentials to develop and test care processes that aim to speed up diagnosis and treatment commencement pathways from GPs and psychiatrists, as well as optimise recovery support after medical treatment has commenced through delivery of app based self-management support.

The exact PhD topic will be determined taking into account the interests, experience and prior training of the successful candidate. Possible topics include, but are not limited to designing new clinical applications and/or implementation and evaluation of current applications within the above technologies.

The scholarship will suit an applicant with training in Human Factors, Psychology, Design methods, Computer Science, Public Health, Medicine, or a Health-related field. It would also suit applicants who enjoy translating innovative technologies into clinical applications, as well as a desire to work with consumers, carers and clinicians.

This research project will be conducted at Flinders University (Tonsley, SA). The scholarship includes opportunities to participate in national and international conferences, including exposure to the CRC’s national scholar development network of approx. 150 PhD students and collaborators.

The scholarship includes:

• A Living allowance stipend valued at $40,000 per annum (tax free) for 3 years
• $5,000 education allowance per annum for 3 years.

To be eligible for the award of a scholarship applicants must:

• Resident in Australia
• Meet PhD admission requirements for domestic or international students, including an Australian Honours degree Class 1 or 2A or equivalent international qualification, with a research component of at least 6 months full-time study achieving Distinction (75%); or evidence of equivalent research experience; and
• Be available to commence as a full-time PhD student at Flinders University in the first half of 2023.
• Eligible to receive RTP tuition fees or have means to fund tuition fees.
