The Northern Territory Medical Program Bursary has been established to provide financial assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students enrolled in the Northern Territory Medical Program at Flinders University.
The Bursaries are funded by the Commonwealth Government. New Bursaries will continue to be granted as long as there is sufficient funding to cover the full 4 years of the Bursary.
The Bursary is available for the normal duration of the Flinders University Northern Territory Medical Program (4 years full-time). Payments will be made in fortnightly instalments subject to passing each academic year. Bursary payments will be withdrawn if the bursary holder withdraws or is precluded from the course.
Bursary payments will be suspended if the holder defers study. Students wishing to defer must apply to the School of Medicine Student Affairs Committee. If the deferral is granted, the Bursary will be suspended for no more than 12 months at a time. After this period Bursary holders need to resume study or reapply for a further approved deferral otherwise the Bursary will be terminated.
Bursary payments may only be paid for a repeat year of study in exceptional circumstances, at the discretion of the Flinders Northern Territory Medical Program Bursary Committee.

The Bursaries will be awarded on the basis of financial need as determined by the Northern Territory Medical Program Bursary Committee. Applicants will be ranked according to demonstrated financial need by the committee which will be co-chaired by the Associate Dean of Flinders NT and the Director of the Indigenous Pathways.
