Description
The Jessie Cooper Scholarship for Women (Adult Entry) has been established to provide financial assistance for mature age women facing financial or personal circumstances inhibiting them from finishing their degrees.
The scholarship was originally known as the Jessie Cooper Study Grants for Mature Entry Women, which were established in 1994 through the fundraising efforts of the former Flinders Alumni Association. The grants sought to address a growing concern about the retention rates of women in their final years of study. The grants recognised the anniversary of 100 years since the establishment of the South Australian women’s suffrage movement and honoured the first female elected into State Parliament Jessie Cooper.
Eligibility
Applicants must
- have normally gained entry to the University either by Adult Entry (VET qualification, Foundation Studies or Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT)) ; and
- be in the last year of their first undergraduate degrees; and
- can demonstrate that their financial and personal circumstances will inhibit completion.
Selection Criteria
The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic merit.
Selection will be made in accordance with procedures approved by the Director, Academic and Student Services. If no applicants are considered to be of sufficient merit the scholarship shall not be awarded.
