Craig Ruddy Scholarship

The Scholarship has been established through a donation from Craig Ruddy. In 2004 he won the Archibald Prize for his portrait “Two Worlds” of Yolgnu actor David Gulpilil. From the proceeds of the sale of “Two Worlds”, Craig Ruddy wanted to support the medical profession by contributing to education and mentoring opportunities for Indigenous medical students in the Northern Territory, in particular in the Top End region to reflect David Gulplil’s home in Wanga (North East Arnhem).

A minimum of one scholarship will be available per year. Each Scholarship will have a maximum value of $5000 per recipient paid in 2 equal instalments after the census date of each semester. The number of Scholarships will depend on the funding available.

Applicants for the Scholarship must:

• be of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent; and
• be accepted as an Australia Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander by the community in which he or she lives or has lived; and
• identify as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander; and
• have had a permanent home address in the Northern Territory for at least 5 years; and
• be normally enrolled full-time at Flinders University*; and
• be enrolled in the Northern Territory Medical Program; and
• be able to demonstrate financial need; and
• be able to demonstrate a passion to improve health outcomes in the Northern Territory.

Applications will be accepted from part-time students who have extenuating circumstances that prevent them from studying full-time (e.g., disabilities, carer responsibilities).
