The College of Education, Psychology and Social Work is offering up to five Summer Research Scholarships to provide research experience to undergraduate students during the summer break. This scholarship program is intended to enhance understanding of the current research programs being conducted within the College, and to provide the student practical experience and encouragement to consider a postgraduate career in research.
The timing of the research project will take place during the Summer vacation for a period of up to six weeks (typically between December and mid-February). The starting date will be determined by the applicant and their supervisor.
The award benefit is up to $2,000 for the duration of the research project.
This stipend is exclusively for the student and does not cover any necessary research expenses, which must be provided by the supervisor.
The award benefit will be paid in two instalments: at the start of the research project, and at the completion of the research project. To receive the final payment, the awardee must submit a final 500-word report outlining what was learnt from the experience and how it was beneficial to their education/skills development (e.g., how has the award contributed to the student's understanding of how research in their discipline is conducted). The report will need to be signed by the student and their supervisor and sent to cepsw.research@flinders.edu.au.
This award is solely for educational purposes. The internship funding must not be used to support research that will form part of the Honours thesis project the following year. Moreover, the recipient is under no obligation to perform any work, nor are they necessarily required to attend at the University or elsewhere. There is no intention to create an employment relationship.
The application is to be emailed to cepsw.research@flinders.edu.au by COB Wednesday 30th November 2022 .
The application must be filled out correctly and co-signed by the supervisor as per the form. Late applications will not be considered
Students must contact academic staff of the College of Education, Psychology and Social Work and who are within their discipline to find a potential supervisor. The student must then work with their potential supervisor to develop their research project. Please complete all questions of the application form overleaf, adhering to the word limits in each section. The supervisor is required to provide a brief statement describing what the student will be doing (e.g., literature review), and outline the feasibility and any resources provided to ensure completion of the project within six-weeks.
By signing the research proposal, the research supervisor guarantees:
•That the student is qualified for the award;
•To provide research supervision and any necessary infrastructural support;
•To provide the necessary financial resources to enable the work to be completed.
