Description
This exciting project is a partnership between Prof Karin Nordström at Flinders University and Prof Andrew Barron at Macquarie University.
The student will be placed at Flinders University, with co-supervision provided by Dr Yuri Ogawa. There will be ample opportunity for interacting with the Macquarie team, which also includes a PhD student.
We are looking for someone with a keen interest in hoverflies, motion vision, decision making, insect behavior, neuroscience and electrophysiology, and/or virtual reality. Appropriate backgrounds include biology, zoology, neuroscience, software engineering, machine learning. We will tailor the
details of the project to suit the student’s background and interests.
Benefits
The scholarship includes:
- a stipend valued at $33,000* per annum (2023 rate) tax free
- The scholarship will be awarded for 3 years, with possibility for extension
- a Research Training Program Fee Offset Scholarship to cover tuition fees for Australian Citizens, NZ Citizens and Permanent Residents
Eligibility
To be eligible for the award of this scholarship a student must:
- Be an Australian citizen; or New Zealand citizen; or have been granted permanent resident status; and
- meet PhD admission requirements including; and
- be available to commence as a full-time PhD student at Flinders University in 2023;

The Project lead may invite you to apply and request a copy of your CV together with a covering letter outlining your relevant qualifications, experience, research experience and reasons for applying for the scholarship.
Applicants will be shortlisted and interviews will be held within 3 weeks following the closing date. Outcomes will be released within 3 weeks following the interviews.
