Dr Omar Shakar is a Lecturer in Engineering and Digital Technologies at Flinders University. His academic background is in electronics, sensors and digital hardware, with expertise in signal and image processing, embedded systems, and robotics. He has more than twenty years of experience in higher education teaching across engineering and digital technology disciplines.
Omar teaches across several core engineering areas, including engineering programming, cyber-physical systems, robotics and automation, cybersecurity, electronics, digital electronics, and communication systems. His teaching emphasises hands-on learning, industry-relevant practice, and integrates emerging technologies such as robotics platforms, industrial cobots, embedded systems, artificial intelligence, and computer vision to enhance student engagement and practical skills development.

More recently, his work has focused on computer vision, robotics, automation, and intelligent cyber-physical systems, with an emphasis on applied and industry-aligned engineering education.
