I am currently the Biology Manager at Forensic Science South Australia. Biology encompasses the collection, analysis and interpretation of biological samples and DNA profiles. Previously I spent time as the Chemistry Manager which is a diverse group comprising illicit drug analysis, clandestine laboratory attendance, document analysis, and trace chemical analysis including gunshot residue, explosives, ignitable liquids and glass/fibres. Prior to this I was a DNA Scientist for over 10 years including as the Science Leader Biology, DNA Database Management. During that time I supervised criminal case work and testified in both the District and Supreme courts. I was a member of the National DNA User Advisor Group which contributed to the National DNA Investigative Capability (NDIC) project (NIFA) and was involved in the verification of the new national familial searching capability. I participate in the training of interstate and overseas scientists in the use of the continuous DNA interpretation system, STRmix™. I have an interest in Forensic DNA analysis and forensic databasing including interrogation of databases via direct and familial searching.
