Birte is interested in understanding groundwater system dynamics. She specialises in hydrogeological flow and transport modelling and recently completed her PhD at Flinders University on the hydraulic and salinity evolution of groundwater-fed pit lakes. She now works part-time as a Research Associate in Hydrogeology, contributing to research on water banking in the Murray–Darling Basin, where surplus water is stored underground for later use during drought. She also continues research into pit lake dynamics, investigating flow patterns in and around pit lakes across Australia.
