I'm a theoretical linguist interested in the interaction between semantics and syntax (syntax-semantics interface). I focus on the grammars of the languages situating on the further analytic end of the analytic-synthetic spectrum, especially Mainland South East Asian (MSEA) languages.

I have two main research areas of interest:

  • Theoretical Linguistics (Tense-Aspect-Mood systems; Syntax-semantics interface; Grammaticalization theory; Functional Grammars including SFL, RRG, RCG)

  • The application of theoretical linguistics in the improvement of language-based assessments and care techniques/programs for bilingual and multilingual clients. In particular, I’m interested in the application of Spontaneous Elicited Narrative in assessment of language disorders in bilingual adults, and the application of phonological awareness in voice therapy intervention for clients of diverse language backgrounds.
