The Rotary Club Barossa Valley Foundation Scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to undergraduate students who have resided in the Barossa Valley/Eden Valley wine region.
For Kaleb Hackett, the scholarship provided him with the opportunity to live on campus while studying a Bachelor of Biotechnology.
Upon receiving the scholarship in 2014, Kaleb says,
“I felt surprised and relieved, knowing that financially I was a little safer”.
He went on to say that, “being rewarded with the scholarship gives me incentive to work my hardest, using my potential to the most”.
Kaleb previously completed work experience at Healthscope Pathology which expanded his love for science. Kaleb says he chose to pursue his interests at Flinders University because the campus has “one of the best science facilities in Adelaide”.
“Receiving the scholarship allowed greater freedom to enjoy my time at university and I was able to figure out what I really wanted to do in the future with my degree”.
During his study, Kaleb discovered that he has a natural aptitude for public speaking and leading teams. As a result, Kaleb decided to select business topics as his electives.
“My goal is to be involved in either research or marketing of a large biotechnology company and possibly undertake a masters or PhD.”
Kaleb has personally met with The Rotary Club of the Barossa Valley to thank them for their generosity. Kaleb says that he is “working as hard as I can to make it worth it for them”.
