The Murchland family’s Christmas-time generosity supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Medical students at Flinders University.
Study materials and textbooks can be a costly outlay for students especially as they begin their degree, but through the Indigenous Medical Books Fund these costs are eased for all first year Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Medical students at Flinders University.
Medical student Sarah Logan says the support has been a great help to her studies.
“This gift has assisted me to purchase an anatomy atlas to help me study anatomy, as well as purchasing textbooks and equipment such as a stethoscope. I was slowly saving to be able to purchase the items required so this funding has taken the pressure off.”
The support is an initiative of the Murchland family, who since 2012 have had a Christmas tradition of pooling together the money they would normally spend on presents for each other, to instead support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education at Flinders.
This year, through the Medical Books Fund the Murchland family provided an additional funding boost to all year levels of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Medical students at Flinders University campuses throughout South Australia and the Northern Territory.
The added support was a welcome surprise for the 19 students, including fourth year Medical student Amy Hughes who says, “I am in the final year of my Medical degree and have been looking to get one book in particular, Kumar and Clark Clinical Medicine. This text has been recommended to me by many consultants as I am interested in exploring internal medicine further as a career path.
“I will now be able to purchase this book and have online access as well. Thank you.”
The Indigenous Medical Books Fund is a practical way to ease study costs and to provide encouragement to new students at the University.
Please join the Murchland family to support students at Flinders through the Indigenous Medical Books Fund. 100% of your donation will support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Medical students at Flinders University.
