If you meet the prerequisites, you can apply for a training position directly through the Radiation Oncology Training Network. Each Training Network individually advertises their available positions.  Positions may be advertised directly by accredited training sites/hospitals of individual networks throughout the year. RANZCR is responsible for accrediting training sites and overseeing the training program.

To be accepted in the training program, you must:

• Have MBBS or equivalent medical qualifications as recognised by the registering authority of the country in which the RANZCR training program is conducted and the Board of the College.
• Be registered as a medical practitioner by the registered authority recognised by the Board of the College in the state or country where you are training (Australia, New Zealand or Singapore).
• Have completed at least two full years in an approved hospital as an intern or resident.

The RANZCR radiation oncology training program is a five-year program in two phases:

• Phase 1 (36 months)
• Phase 2 (24 months)

Training is undertaken through accredited network training sites. Trainees rotate to a number of training sites throughout their training.

If you meet the prerequisites, you can apply for a training position directly from an accredited training site/network. Positions are advertised by each hospital throughout the year.

To join the training program, you need to:

• Meet the prerequisites.
• Have been accepted into an accredited training position.
• Submit a training program application to the College within two weeks of starting your training.

To be accepted into the college's training program, a candidate must:

1. Have appropriate basic medical qualifications:
   • Be a graduate of a medical school recognised by the Medical Board of Australia and the Board of the RANZCR (or have successfully completed both Part I and Part II AMC examinations for overseas medical graduates in Australia).
     OR
   • Be a graduate of a medical school recognised by the Medical College of New Zealand and the Board of the RANZCR (or have successfully completed the NZREX for overseas medical graduates in New Zealand).
     OR
   • Be a graduate of a medical school recognised by the registering authority of the country in which the RANZCR training program is conducted and the Board of the RANZCR.

AND

1. Be fully registered as a medical practitioner by the registering authority recognised by the Board of the RANZCR, in the state or country in which the RANZCR training program is conducted
   AND
2. Have completed at least two full years in an approved hospital as an intern/resident

To become a Clinical Radiologist, you must complete the training program administered by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR). The program runs for five years (full time equivalent) and gives you broad experience across the full variety of environments and imaging techniques that clinical radiologists need to be familiar with.

If you are an International Medical Graduate (IMG) in clinical radiology or radiation oncology who wishes to practice in Australia or New Zealand, RANZCR will be involved in assessing your training and experience. There are two main pathways to practising in Australia:

• Specialist assessment: assessment of your training and experience.
• Area of Need assessment: You apply directly for a position in a rural or remote Australian location where there is a shortage of clinical radiologists or radiation oncologists. RANZCR assesses your training and experience.

RANZCR also assesses applications for short-term training positions for specialists or specialists-in-training who need to supplement their skills or experience in areas not available in their country.
