Psychiatrists are medical doctors who are specialists in the treatment of mental illness. As a psychiatrist, you'll help people to manage and recover from mental health conditions. You will get to know your patients and listen to their stories. Using your medical, psychological and interpersonal skills you'll be able to diagnose and treat the most complex cases
The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) is the principal organisation representing the medical specialty of psychiatry in Australia and New Zealand and has responsibility for training, examining and awarding the qualification of Fellowship of the RANZCP. The Northern Territory Branch provides members with NT based advocacy support, events, and other opportunities to become involved with the College.
The NT Rural Psychiatry Training Program is supported by the Australian Government funding for Specialist Training Posts, Integrated Rural Training Pipeline positions and Psychiatry Workforce Program placements. These positions offer trainees unique experiences in rural and remote settings, including close collaboration with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations.
