What is abnormal visceral pain and who experiences it? What are some of the effects of conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome and pelvic pain on a person’s quality of life?
Dr Andrea Harrington from the Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute explores the answers to these questions as she delves into the topic of visceral pain and the neural pathways that control how we detect and feel pain from our internal, visceral organs.
Andrea is a Senior Research Fellow from the Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute. She is based in the Visceral Pain Research Group and her laboratory based research focuses on identifying the neural circuits in the spinal cord and brain that receive pain signalling from our visceral organs.
