We’re working to create a circular economy on campus, recovering the maximum possible value from the materials we consume at Flinders.

This is a whole-of-community effort, bringing together our staff, students and retailers to improve standards and processes so that we can avoid waste production, take back used materials where possible and/or use more sustainable alternatives.
Our waste management system incorporates colour-coded bins complete with images of the waste to separate organics, recyclables and general waste – making them easy-to-use and helping to avoid contamination.
To close the loop, where possible organic waste is collected from bins, food providers and student kitchens and is composted, providing high quality soil and nutrients for the local farming sector.
In addition, we offer special waste streams for our community to recycle batteries, surgical face masks and are always on the look-out for solutions to new and existing waste streams to incorporate.
There are plenty of opportunities for our Flinders community to be involved in sustainability on campus.
