What happens to Organic Waste on Campus?

Organic waste is collected from campus bins, food providers and student kitchens, and is processed by Jeffries to produce compost and soil for farmers, viticulturists, landscapers and home gardeners.

What happens to 10c Deposit Recycling Waste on Campus?

10c deposits on campus are collected by Direct Collect.

What happens to General Waste on Campus?

Unlike your general waste at home, on campus it is NOT sent to landfill! Instead, it is repurposed. Resource Co. processes it to produce a ready-to-use alternative fuel source called Processed Engineer Fuel (PEF). This fuel is currently utilised by the Adelaide Brighton Cement Centre to fire their kiln.

What happens to Paper and Cardboard Recycling Waste on Campus?

Paper and cardboard collected on campus is recycled at the Remondis Resource Recovery Facility in Wingfield.  

E-waste needs to be properly collected and recycled, due to the toxic and hazardous materials it contains. Up to 95% of these materials can be reused or recycled.

E-waste must be dropped off at specialised recycling drop-off points. This is essential to prevent fire hazards and the release of various toxic substances and materials into the soil and waterways. Additionally, it ensures that valuable resources such as precious metals are recovered and recycled. 

At Flinders, our Information and Digital Services team recycles electrical and electronic equipment such as old laptops, desktop computers, monitors, cables, screens and more through Electronic Recycling Australia.

Electronic Recycling Australia is an initiative of Minda providing services to people living with disability through sustainable employment, and enriches their lives through greater community participation and contribution.
