Thursday 22 September saw Flinders Maritime Archaeology graduates, staff and industry partners celebrate 20 years of teaching Maritime Archaeology at Flinders.
In his welcome speech, Professor Peter Monteath spoke of how the Maritime Archaeology program was established by guest of honour Professor Mark Staniforth with the great support of Emeritus Professor Vincent Megaw. The Flinders Maritime Archaeology program has long been one of the best-regarded archaeological programs in the world, and its graduates have gone on to work professionally for underwater cultural heritage management agencies, museums and consultancy companies, as well as studying and teaching at universities across the globe.
Mark Staniforth and Paddy O’Toole donated funding for the establishment of The MAP Fund Maritime Archaeology Research Grant Scheme and awards were presented to Lilith Somerville, Emma Webb and Shiralee Farley on the night.
