2020 Chalmers Oration

On Thursday 1 October 2020 Flinders University College of Medicine and Public Health hosted the 2020 Chalmers Oration delivered by Professor Nicola Spurrier, South Australia’s Chief Public Health Officer.

The annual Chalmers Oration commemorates the work of John Chalmers AC who was the University’s first Professor of Medicine (1975-1996). The event was hosted by Professor Jonathan Craig, Vice President and Executive Dean, College of Medicine and Public Health at Flinders University.

Professor Chalmers and his wife Alex Bune were among the audience at the lecture which was livestreamed for viewers around the world. Other special guests included Sue O’Neill, CEO of Southern Adelaide Local Area Health Network (SALHN), Professor Clare Pollock, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students), Flinders University, Professor Chris Baggoley AO (DUniv, BSocAdmin ’84, BMBS ’80),  Dr Richard Harris SC OAM (DUniv, BMBS ’89) and Dr Fiona Harris (BMBS ‘90).

Professor Spurrier has held Academic Status as Associate Professor with the College of Medicine and Public Health since 2011 and, prior to that, was employed by the University from 1998 to 2010 (Paediatrics and Child Health). In April 2020, the University awarded her Academic Status at the level of Professor.
