The only university in South Australia with a Defence Entrepreneurship Program.

Flinders University is proud to be the first university in South Australia, and the second in the country, to offer the Defence Entrepreneurship Program (DEP). Forming part of our MBA Future Business, the DEP is a landmark program that will see students learn how to use modern innovation tools and techniques to address real national security and intelligence issues. It is based on the Hacking for Defense ® (H4D) program created in the US in 2016 by Steve Blank, founder of the Lean Startup movement; Joe Felter, a retired Army Colonel; and Peter Newell, CEO of BMNT.

Internships, placements and projects.

Learning in a real business setting is highly valued by employers and students alike, and we’ve built our MBAs around it. Flinders University is well-connected to industry, so our range of internship, placement and project opportunities are the best way to fast-track your career.

Embrace the future with advanced manufacturing.

Experience the Innovative Manufacturing Accelerator (IMA) as part of your course. This specialised industry entrepreneurial program is focused on helping small to medium enterprises address business challenges using advanced manufacturing tools and techniques – also known as industry 4.0. It combines the best of the university’s world-class advanced manufacturing and prototyping capabilities with access to academics and researchers, and will feature interactive workshops, coaching, technical support, mentor guidance and more.

Build connections between wine, tourism and technology.

FOMENT works in two ways: technological acceleration, and technological adoption. Engage with both as part of your MBA, with the program offering intensive acceleration to existing wine and tourism technology companies that are innovative and ready to scale up, and pairing them with businesses who will use their products and services. FOMENT is also intended to speed up technology adoption by viticulture, wine and tourism businesses by connecting them with state-of-the-art technology solutions.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Flinders MBA? keyboard_arrow_up

It’s a new way to MBA. These exciting, fresh courses at Flinders University are innovative, flexible and highly engaging – if you’ve been considering an MBA, now is the time, with multiple to choose from that can be tailored to your life and goals.

Can I study 100% online? keyboard_arrow_up

No, but there are plenty of online study options available as part of your course! We require some face-to-face interaction as we strongly believe networking opportunities are one of the major benefits of studying an MBA.

If I study on campus, where are the classes? keyboard_arrow_up

The classes will be held at our campus in the Adelaide CBD, where our building overlooks the lovely Victoria Square.

Is an MBA worth it? keyboard_arrow_up

Yes, in many ways. Not only will it help you to build your networks, improve your confidence and knowledge, and give you access to sought-after industry experience, but salaries for MBA graduates tend to be higher than for those with just a Bachelor’s Degree.

Am I eligible to study an MBA at Flinders? keyboard_arrow_up

To view the admission requirements for the MBA, refer to the Handbook. Generally speaking, you’ll either need to hold a Bachelor’s Degree from an approved tertiary institution or the Graduate Certificate in Business Administration (which can be accessed by proving prior work experience).

Do you need a degree to study an MBA? keyboard_arrow_up

Not necessarily. See the answer above for more information on eligibility. To view the admission requirements for the MBA, refer to the Handbook.

How do I apply? keyboard_arrow_up

You can apply through SATAC. There are three study periods for our new MBAs, meaning you may be able to start at different times of the year.

How much does it cost to study an MBA at Flinders? keyboard_arrow_up

This can vary based on your circumstances and the topics you study. View the Handbook to find more.

Can I specialise in my MBA? keyboard_arrow_up

Yes, definitely! The topics and specialised industry entrepreneurial programs within the courses will provide you with invaluable content about starting your own business, and the industry, student and alumni networks you’ll establish during the course will help prepare you to launch your own venture.

You can also choose from six MBA specialisations: Business Analytics, Finance, Healthcare Management, Human Resource Management, International Business, and Marketing.

Why isn’t the MBA 100% online? keyboard_arrow_up

We strongly believe engaging in-person helps to improve the quality of professional relationships, and it forms an important part of the courses. That being said, studying at Flinders University is still highly flexible. There are multiple ways to structure your study timetable around your life, and you’ve got the option to study all of your topics online, too.

Can I study part-time? keyboard_arrow_up

Yes, it will just extend the duration of your course (view the Handbook for more details).

How much industry experience will I get if I study a Flinders MBA? keyboard_arrow_up

This can vary based on the MBA you select to study, but all of our MBA courses offer generous exposure to industry and opportunity, through placements, internships and specialised industry entrepreneurial programs. Of the courses, the MBA Industry Focused offers the most exposure to industry (up to 36 weeks).
